Heat sealing is a proven technology that offers a number of advantages over other plate sealing methods, including time and cost savings as well as 100% sealing integrity, making heat sealing ideal for PCR and storage applications, even at low temperatures. Heat sealing features no adhesives which could interfere with samples, as well as greater resistance to solvents such as DMSO. Peelable and pierceable seals are available for easy sample access to sealed plates.
We have led the way with innovative products for heat sealing, offering a choice of heat sealing systems, with a wide range of sealing materials to suit any application.
Benefits
- Safe for temperature sensitive samples
- Wide variety of seals available, in rolls for use with automated sealers or in sheets for use with manual sealers, including clear seals that offer excellent optical clarity for fluorescence applications, such as ELISA and real-time quantitative PCR
- DMSO resistant to ensure your samples remain pure
- Designed for reliable performance with Thermo Scientific ALPS instruments, including the ALPS 300, ALPS 3000, ALPS 25 and ALPS 50 V

Fast, Secure Sealing
With heat sealers, the sealing material is first placed in position over the plate, which has a raised rim around each well. Heat is applied evenly for several seconds, resulting in welding or binding of the sealing material and the raised rim, to achieve a complete seal, eliminating the need for adhesives, which can interfere with the sample. Heat sealing also offers the possibility of retrieving samples and then re-sealing the plate.

Thermo-Seal Heat Seals
This foil polypropylene laminate heat seal is suitable for sealing polypropylene microplates for long-term storage, including transportation, and low temperature as well as high temperature applications such as PCR, including use in waterbath thermal cyclers. Featuring a very strong, long term seal, the Thermo-Seal can be peeled using the foil stripper tool, or pierced with a single pipette tip or pierce plate. With excellent chemical resistance, Thermo-Seals are recommended for use with DMSO. Temperature Range: -80 C to 120 C
|
Easy Pierce Heat Seals
This foil heat seal is suitable for polypropylene or polyethylene storage or PCR microplates, including 384-well formats where piercing is a useful method for sample retrieval. Because a second seal can easily be applied over the pierced seal for resealing, Easy Pierce seals are ideal for compound management and high throughput screening applications. Easy Pierce seals can also be easily removed by hand and are recommended for use with DMSO. Temperature Range: -80 C to 80 C; 120 C in thermocyclers with screw down lids
|
Easy Pierce 20 µM Heat Seals
These seals incorporate the same features as standard Easy Pierce seals, but are thinner to enhance piercing as well as enable multiple seals to be applied over previously pierced plates. Temperature Range: -80 C to 80 C; 120 C in thermocyclers with screw down lids
|
Easy Peel Heat Seals
These foil laminate heat seals are suitable for long-term storage of polypropylene and polyethylene plates at low temperatures, down to -200 C. Easy Peel seals can be applied to microplates, easily removed and then a new seal applied several times. When used with polyethylene plates, the seal forms a weld and offers resistance to DMSO when used under low temperature conditions of 4 C or lower. Temperature Range: -90 C to 90 C; 120 C in thermocyclers with screw down lids
|
Clear Seal Diamond Heat Seals
Clear Seal Diamond heat seals are a clear polymer heat seal ideal for fluorescence and colorimetric applications, such as QPCR and other fluorescent applications. The seal features a peelable seal and excellent optical clarity and works with polypropylene, polystyrene and polyethylene microplates. Temperature Range: -80 C to 80 C; 120 C in thermocyclers with screw down lids
|
Clear Seal Heat Seals
This thin clear polymer heat seal is ideal for applications that require a pierceable non-conductive material. A Clear Seal is easily peeled by hand, or piercable for sample access and offers excellent optical clarity. Temperature Range: -80 C to 80 C; 120 C in thermocyclers with screw down lids
|
Clear Seal Strong Heat Seals
This clear polyester polypropylene laminate heat seal is designed to provide a weld seal on polypropylene plates that cannot be peeled or pierced. Optically transparent for sample inspection, Clear Seal Strong heat seals are suitable for use in genotyping applications. Due to its strong and unpeelable seal properties, it can also be used for storage and disposal of hazardous material, and offers high chemical resistance to DMSO. Temperature Range: -80 C to 120 C
