Dear Customer,
In light of recent developments at Apogent Discoveries, we’d like to take a moment to explain some issues that may affect you. Please note that these changes are effective the fifth of May, 2003.
As part of a cost savings measure, it was recently announced that Apogent Discoveries Sunnyvale facility (the Robbins Scientific facility), would be consolidated with our Hudson, NH facility. In conjunction with this closure, it was decided that certain Robbins Scientific product lines no longer fit the strategic direction of Apogent Discoveries (which is to focus on liquid handling technologies) and would find much better homes in other Apogent Technologies companies.
The first product line affected is PCR consumables (CyclePlates, StripEase Tubes and ThinWall tubes). These products will be transferred to AbGene/Marsh BioProducts, an industry leader in PCR technologies. Due to their knowledge, expertise and infrastructure, it was determined that the PCR products would be best suited within their current product offering.
The second is the non-proprietary Automation Tips (AutoTips, RoboTips and QT Tips). These will be transferred to Molecular BioProducts (MBP), an industry leader in pipette tip manufacturing. Their expertise in manufacturing Automation Pipette Tips for other manufacturers platforms made them the logical choice to take over these products.
The third line affected is HLA/Tissue Typing Products. These products will be transferred to NalgeNunc International, a diverse supplier of consumables for our industry, which has a complete line of HLA and Tissue Typing products.
While the above products are being transferred to other divisions, two core components of the Robbins product line are remaining within Apogent Discoveries. These are the Hydra and Tango liquid handling platforms, which have a perfect fit with our “fluid thinking” approach.
Unfortunately, some products did not fit with either Apogent Discoveries, or our sister companies. These products (including FlexChem products, Hybridization Incubators, Gemini waterbaths and TrueTemp Microheating systems) will be discontinued upon selling the last of our inventory.
We have undertaken the transition of these product lines to our sister divisions with the greatest of thought and care. Our goal is to make this transition as easy as possible, and we have spent considerable time training all of our support personnel in assisting you with this transition.
Lastly, with a refocusing of our efforts on liquid handling platforms and consumables, we have decided to change our company name back to one synonymous with liquid handling technologies. As of May 5, 2003, Apogent Discoveries will once again conduct business as Matrix Technologies Corporation. All contact info will remain the same, but our new web address will be www.matrixtechcorp.com.
